Whitni Balentine felt like she had lost everything. After her parents died in a car accident, she didn’t think things could get any worse, but she was wrong. The dreams were the problem. Whatever she saw when she closed her eyes tended to come true but it was more like nightmares.
Maverick Academy specialized in teaching certain groups with gifts how to function in society without causing problems or going insane. Whit finds herself enrolled and quickly discovers that creatures she thought were just fictional are actually very, very real.
Learning to control her dreams and being the new girl is hard enough, but then she starts drawing the attention of Nolan, the biggest flirt at Maverick. She tries to fight her attraction but he seems to be everywhere. The question that plagues her mind as she gets more involved with Nolan is can she trust him or is she just another conquest.
Between the rumors making the rounds about her and Nolan to her new friend the vampire, life at Maverick Academy is definitely not boring.

Interesting story
By suzpharmd2003
I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read that had an ending, but left plenty of room for the next book in the series. It is about supernaturals with a twist that I haven't seen before (at least not explained as it is here). I will definitely look for the next book in the series.

Tasty Fluff
By Drake Morgan
Not a great book, none of the side characters stood out, but still a fun read and well worth the low price. The editing was solid, few or no errors in this one.
This book was primarily setup for later volumes, with not much action. Still, the academy was cool and minor sequences like the dark conquest competitions were nicely done. Looking forward to see where this series goes, would definitely buy additional volumes in the series.

Maverick
By Rachel
I hate to do it but it must be said. Something about this book bugged me. Most of it I believe was the main character, Whit. She might work for most people but I never clicked with her. I found her annoying, silly and an all around little snot. She never really got three demential or seemed relatable. Her internal monologue had my eyes a rollin' and wanting to chuck my kindle. Alas I soldiered on, hoping for a turn in the tide. I was disappointed.
Along with that, the romance was completely flat. Nolan and Whit, ignite a passion...in me...to strangle them. That was about the only passion present in this book. Nolan is a huge flirt, gasp! Awesome, maybe things will pick up! Nope, Whitt constantly ping-pongs between thinking Nolan's a great guy and then being a just another feather in Nolan's conquest hat. And that's all dandy, but she goes about it like a dummy. (Spoilerish) She is quite the drama queen/jealous girlfriend. She also definitely has trust issues. I mean, he kept the fact that a girl was on his team for Dark Conquest and said girl kissed Nolan on the cheek! Crazy, I know. Whit got reeeeaaallllly angry about it. She blew it quite out of proportion. Sure, be angry, then sit him down and lay down the law. Don't sob over it then never trust him again. Both ends frustrated me. They behaved like five-year olds around each other. And I quote, "But...but I like you." Wait, did I flash back to sixth grade? Who says that? In part the writing was so flat because the dialogue, in my opinion, was painful. No witty, sarcastic battles of high intelligence, or even anything really informative in this story. It was very bone dry with little entertainment.
Not much new here either. I have read quite a few books on the school themes and all of them were better done. The only newish bit was the fact the Whit was physic, but even that isn't elaborated. At sixteen, it's just whoop, you have physic abilities. Alright...that's fine but there is literally no further explanation of any world building including her abilities or just the supernatural world in general. This is just my preference, but I prefer a little explanation and detail of how gifts/the people possessing those gifts interact. The one supernaturalish class in Maverick, consisted of a dream circle, group time and then teacher time. Not only is that extremely vague, the instructing gives no structure/reason for physic abilities. My last complaint that I will mention is the cliches. Whit makes out in the library, new girl attracts hot popular boy, and my favorite, the game seven minutes in heaven. Really? It might be just me but high schoolers tossed that game out when boys actually acquired game to find actual hook-ups on their own. Again, did we flash back to sixth grade?
Please don't waste your time with this book, it is not worth it.
