His style is very easy to follow

A very interesting book. First of all, the author is not a nutcase. He doesn't have prophetic visions of doom or predictions of the zombie apocalypse to peddle. He points out there are many different local or regional disasters that can and have disrupted the normal way of life for days or weeks at a time. Prepping puts you in position to survive these events.
His style is very easy to follow. A conversational tone and illustrations from his own experience makes the author very human.
The book is a good beginning resource. It surveys areas such as food, power, health care and defense. It presents numerous options that are available and discusses the strengths and weaknesses of each. Often he intends to start the thought process and provides other resources where you can pursue the ideas further.
I enjoyed this book very much.

A Bible for Preppers

Just like you can never have enough supplies and survival plans in preparation for when the SHTF, I also believe you can never have enough Prepper books, so I own quite a few and I can safely say that this is the best Prepper book I've read yet. If you are preparing for when SHTF, when make sure you include this book in your collection for some fantastic tips, tricks and DIY topics!

Not so amazing tips, tricks and hacks

This home-published book is loaded with typos and filled with generic information you can find on the Internet. The pages aren't even numbered and there is no table of contents or index. Best advice garnered from the book, "Always carry some aluminium foil on you. It is great for laying on wet ground in order to make a dry platform to help build a fire." Generally,the advice is rather mundane, as an example: "Always keep some water purification tablets on you in case you can't start a fire to boil some water." or "Use crayons as emergency candles." The strange advice listed was "You can use toilet paper and duct table to make splint to help set broken bones." (I'm not confident that would work.) Another odd strategy, "You don't need to waste your energy and time chopping every log with a machete or axe. Just kick them, and snap them using force."
