A classic. Still authoritative.

This is an authoritative textbook on ion channels that is often quoted in numerous textbooks in neurophysiology. Hille himself has contributed a lot in this field. The Hogkin-Huxley model is the de facto standard model in neurophysiology but certain things about neurons cannot be explained only with voltage-controlled sodium and potassium channels. With the patch-clamp technique, we have found a way to explore other interesting channles. To remind you, there are a world of ion channels! Hille's textbook show there are indeed a variety of channels most of which are poorly understood. As a reviewer below has commented, it also gives a unique insight into the history of neural membrane research. Concepts are explained with clearity. Details measurement techniques.

Destined to become an Oprah Book Club selection

Some books have opening sentences that grab you in an instant. "Call me Ishmael." "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." And now, Hille joins the list of authors to reach out and grab us, with the awe-inspiring "Ion channels are macromolecular pores in cell membranes."

Even after my fifth reading, that line still gives me the shivers.

But it takes more than a brilliant opening to make a great book, and Hille delivers. From a distinctly jaunty derivation of the Nernst equation to the page-turning thrills of non-stationary fluctuation analysis, the book is hard to put down. It does bog down a little in Chapter 10, "Elementary Properties of Ions in Solution"--after all, is there anyone who isn't already aware of the fundamentals of electrodiffusion? But this is really a minor trifle in an otherwise masterful work.

It's just a matter of time before Oprah gives this book a nod; buy it now and avoid the rush!

A staple of electrophysiology

If you are interested in the science of electrophysiology, this is your textbook. Starts with basic, ground concepts and works it way up. Begin with an intro of Ohm's law, etc. and the history of electrophysiology and moves to more in depth material for each ion channel. The only drawback is that this is the most up to date version, so there has been some progress since then. But for anyone involved in patch clamping, this is a must read.

Soooo many amazing books

Scornfully Yours - the beginning of the series, we're introduced to Emma, Carter and Bass .. not to mention the rest of the gang. OMG the angst in this book had me reeling for more.

Scornfully Hers - Carter's novella that shows his point of view through the beginning of his and Emma's relationship. This is the book that sold me on Carter and his love for her. THIS book is what puts Carter Mason as my #2 book boyfriend, only coming in second to Travis Maddox.

Frayed - ummmmm MONSTER BOSS .. I shouldn't have to say more, but Taylor and Trista steal the show in this one. The internal conflict with Trista is crazy and the fact that Taylor tries to pull her from this funk is heartwarming and sexy as hell at the same time.

Blasphemous - This story continues the love triangle that is Bass/Carter/Emma ... Emma's cast in a movie and is single ... where is her heart going to lie .. who will steal the show .. who will come out the victor ... NOPE, not this one .. not yet guys!!!

Scorned - My FAVORITE out of this series .. This is the story of Lindsey and Dimi (the Greek sex pistol that's cast in the movie that Emma stars in) ... There is NOTHING sexier than Dimi and his strength. He fights for his love and she resists each and every time she can .. is it because of Brody ?!?! you're going to have to read to find out!!

Undeniably Yours - Bass freakin Cole and his novella, telling his POV during his relationship with Emma. I'm not a huge Bass Cole fan BUT this novella really opened my eyes to their relationship .. I'm still all for Carter, but I can see a future for Emma and Bass with this book .. talk about the confusion

Fixated On You - Ohhhh you're wanting a happily ever after for Emma ?!?! THIS IS YOUR BOOK .. finally the choice is made and the girl gets the guy ... GAWD you're going to have a rough road to happiness but when you finally get there, the heavens open and the angels rejoice ..

PAMELA ANN you kill me a little more with each book .. I love you so hard it's unreal. I'm so pumped for whatever you have to throw out there for us next!!!

By So many books, so little time
WTF?!? This is the first and LAST book I buy from this author. I can handle angst. I can handle misery. I can't believe how much of that was in this series. Everytime I thought Emma would get her HEA, boom! something else comes along and messes it up. I understand that a little sorrow makes the happy parts seem all the better, but really? This was way too much. I couldn't finish it. I just couldn't. Not only that, I returned it for a refund. It had promise, but by Emma's 3rd story, I had had enough. After reading as much as I did, the ONLY female character I liked was Trista. She actually stayed totally true to herself, and Taylor (her bf) was the most awesome of all the guys.

I don't recommend this to anyone unless they're seriously into misery and discontent..

This series made me feel TORN

At times I wanted to rip someone's head off. Talk about frustrating, oh my gosh, I just wanted to jump up and down and scream...mostly at Emma, well, all of the women...not to mention Carter...guy can't keep it in his pants for 5 minutes, then suddenly we are supposed to buy that he can do it for years...BS!!!

The pages look like they were printed the wrong way and the holes ...

I'll just get to the point. I must've gotten the left hand version. The pages look like they were printed the wrong way and the holes were on the right side- not the left!
When I flipped the front page I was in the back of the book and everything was upside down...it looks like the printed everything inversely right. So now I'm stuck with a book starting from the back, wholes on the wrong side, and like they tried to cover it up with the cover pages. Not happy at all. This makes it nearly IMPOSSIBLE to know what page I'm on and incredibly frustrating when going through to book..
I'm so unhappy with the book. It looks clean, but I'd rather have a used book. ESPECIALLY AFTER THE PRICE I PAID. I'm broke, in collage, working, and paying rent. This just makes me extremely disappointed.

What can I say, I purchased this as a required text for my daughter Psych 101 class. She never even opened it. When I went to see about returning it, it said that it was already past the deadline for returns. I don't understand that as it was never even touched. Epic waste of money!!

at the view of a student, this book clearly states and explains the principles of different techniques such as leveling, traversing, GPS, and most importantly, the computations.

the book is good for students to get familiar with different surveying techniques.
